Base 51

08 August 2024

We were delighted to award £7,000 to Base 51, a charity that supports 11-25 year olds from disadvantaged communities across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.

Lilian Greenwood MP and Nadia Whittome MP visited the charity to celebrate their success in securing our support.

The charity has recently moved to new premises in the centre of Nottingham and our grant has enabled the charity to redecorate and purchase activity equipment and furniture for their new youth club.

Lilian Greenwood MP said “I was delighted to join the Base 51 Team to celebrate their well-deserved funding from the Morrisons Foundation. I know that the hard-working staff and volunteers at the charity make such an incredible contribution supporting so many of Nottingham’s young people to build the life skills, healthy relationships and resilience they need to help prepare them for adulthood. At a time when our young people face so many challenges, this money will help Base 51 with their vital work, for the benefit of everyone in our great city.”

Nadia Whittome MP said “Base 51 have been doing incredible work to support young people in our community for over three decades: from teaching life skills, to providing counselling, to giving them opportunities to try new activities. I’m so pleased that money they’ve secured from the Morrisons Foundation has helped them to refurbish their new youth club, providing great facilities and a safe place to hang out."

Jo Jepson, CEO at Base 51 said: "We are thrilled to receive a grant from Morrisons that has allowed us to upgrade the space at our new premises, making it a warm and welcoming space. It’s vital to have safe and inclusive places for young people, where they can access support for their mental health. Our new space will allow us to continue to offer support for young people in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire"

Liz Tattersley, Morrisons Corporate Affairs Manager presented the donation to the charity, saying: “It’s an absolute pleasure to present this grant to such a wonderful cause in our local community. The work Base 51 does to help our youth is really inspiring and I’m delighted that the Morrisons Foundation has been able to help in such a meaningful way.”
