More Than a Kit. Football United
We are very happy to have joined forces with Kick it Out and Gift of Kit to help more girls play, participate and thrive in grassroots football across West Yorkshire.
Our new initiative called ‘More than a kit. Football United’ will provide 30 girls teams with free football kits, access to new education and opportunities to engage with the wider game during the season.
The project focuses on supporting girl’s teams in West Yorkshire who are struggling for funding or have limited access to kit, those from ethnically diverse communities, or grassroots clubs who are creating new opportunities for girls to play football.
Research from Women in Sport has shown that 64% of girls drop out of sport by age 16, with one-third of them citing uncomfortable or unsuitable clothing as a primary reason.
To be in with a chance to access these opportunities and apply for a new kit for the upcoming season, teams need to tell us their story, outlining the impact they’ve made in the local community, some of the challenges they face and how additional support would help create more opportunities for girls to play football.
Clubs will also need to complete Kick It Out's newly updated Creating Inclusive Clubs learning module, equipping grassroots clubs with practical tools to create positive experiences for players, coaches and volunteers.
As part of the support package, successful teams will receive numbered shirts (including a goalkeeper's jersey), shorts and socks, complete with programme branding, ready for the 2026-27 season.
