Sheffield Mencap and Gateway, a charity that provides support to people with learning disabilities in South Yorkshire, were delighted to receive our donation of £4,878.

Our support covered the costs of a brand new oven and hob to be installed at the charity’s training kitchen facility.

Jennifer Baldwin, Manager of Sheffield Mencap’s Activity and Learning Hub said: “The new oven from Morrisons has been wonderful. It has allowed us to deliver our cooking groups effectively once again.

“We offer baking and independent cookery at our youth club and adult social clubs, and our members really missed this when the old oven broke. Our Activity Learning Hub cookery groups have loved getting stuck into the kitchen again, preparing meals to serve in our ‘Mencafe’.

“Using an oven and hob safely is an important life skill, and our members are now able to work towards this thanks to the Morrisons Foundation support.”

Sheffield Mencap and Gateway has been supporting the city’s learning disability community since 1951, offering a range of services for adults and children with learning disabilities and their carers.

Thanks to our donation, the charity is able to run daily cooking groups at our day service Activity Learning Hub, supporting groups of 8-12 individuals to improve their diet, develop independence, fine motor skills, communication and team-work.

At weekends Sheffield Mencap also offers a 'Sunday Lunch Club', providing a hot meal to 40 elderly carers, as well as evening children's and adult's social groups who also enjoy baking using the new oven and hob.
