Wales Council for Deaf People
Wales Council for Deaf People, a charity that provides support to people with hearing impairment across Wales, were delighted to be awarded a grant of £18,793.
Our support will enable the charity to offer free lip-reading classes to members of their 15 hard of hearing groups that they operate in communities across the country.
Louise Sweeney, Wales Council for Deaf People CEO said, “We are delighted to receive a grant from Morrisons foundation to provide free lip-reading classes to our hard of hearing groups throughout Wales. Losing ones' hearing can be very lonely and isolating, the classes will give people important skills to help communication and continue dealing comfortably with daily life.”
Wales Council for Deaf People is based in Pontypridd, but supports people with hearing impairment all across Wales. Established over 70 years ago the charity has developed a number of voluntary support groups that offer communication support services, information and advice, hearing related training initiatives as well as British Sign Language media productions, enabling those within the deaf community to lead independent and fulfilling lives.
